About Us
In 2010, we drove with our two year old son and one month old daughter to a kennel in North Carolina to look at Labrador puppies. Little did we know how that decision would impact our lives forever! We had been longing for a Lab for years to be a family companion, exercise buddy and duck hunting partner. We got a call one day from a friend at church that a kennel with our dream dog had just lowered their prices and needed to find homes for older puppies, so we dumped out our penny jar and began scraping together every dollar we could find. We piled into a borrowed truck and headed out with high hopes of bringing home a black female puppy. When we arrived, we were greeted by the nicest people and the most wonderful dogs we had ever met! As we walked through the kennel yard, while all the puppies played and wrestled, gentle yellow female with the softest eyes stayed close to us our entire visit and finally sat at our feet and gazed lovingly up at us. For the last 10+ years, that is where she has been! We named her Kona and she has surpassed every expectation we ever had. She was the smartest, kindest, most patient dog and has been a dedicated babysitter we could trust 100% of the time. In addition to that, she had an inner strength and when directed would chase off any intruder we indicated was not welcome, man or beast. She has hunted alongside us on many an icy morning, while we shivered at the thought, she whined and shivered with anticipation! Through all her years, she never made a sick visit to the vet and was the picture of perfect health. We knew she was something really special and decided to have one litter of puppies to preserve this amazing bloodline. She had 10 beautiful pups and we stay in regular contact with many of their owners. Kona spent most days as my faithful companion and going for walks in the field with her granddaughter, great-granddaughter and great-grandson and lounging on her bed in our living room. Through this amazing dog, we have discovered our passion for training and breeding quality retrievers which led to us starting our own kennel, Magnolia Acres Labradors. We desire to uphold the true characteristics of the Labrador breed and provide families all over the east coast with some of God's greatest four-legged gifts.
